Ukraine’s security service prevents double terror attack in Poltava, detains minor PHOTO
Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) counterintelligence has prevented a double terrorist attack in Kremenchuk, Poltava region, detaining a minor accused of preparing explosions on behalf of Russia.
Investigators said the suspect was planting two improvised explosive devices with remote detonation capability near a local police station, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
The first device was expected to detonate during the night of April 17, while the second was intended to be triggered after emergency responders arrived.
“Counterintelligence officers neutralised the device on site and detained the operative in the act, preventing casualties,” they noted.
The investigation established that the 17-year-old student of a local lyceum was recruited via Telegram channels, where he was seeking “easy money.”
He allegedly purchased components for the explosive devices, assembled them in a rented garage, and acted under instructions from a handler based in Russia.
During searches, investigators seized remaining components of the improvised explosive devices and communication equipment containing evidence of contacts with a Russian intelligence officer.
The suspect is currently in custody and faces up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
