UK Parliament: Two MPs ejected after calling PM Starmer "liar" VIDEO

21 April 2026 16:13

On April 20, Reform UK’s Lee Anderson and Your Party MP Zarah Sultana were both ejected from the House of Commons after accusing Prime Minister Keir Starmer of lying during a heated exchange over the appointment of Lord Peter Mandelson as US ambassador.

The confrontation unfolded during a Commons statement in which Starmer addressed scrutiny over the vetting process behind Mandelson’s appointment, British media reports.

Speaker Lindsay Hoyle intervened repeatedly as both MPs used language prohibited under parliamentary rules, which bar members from accusing others of lying or deliberately misleading the House.

Mr Anderson told MPs:

“The problem the prime minister’s got is no one believes him. The public don’t believe him. The MPs on this side of the House don’t believe him. His own gullible backbenchers don’t believe him.

“So does the prime minister agree with me, he’s been lying?”

After refusing to withdraw his remarks, he added:

“Mr Speaker, I have the greatest respect for you and your office, but I will not withdraw it. That man couldn’t lie straight in bed.”

Hoyle ordered him to leave the chamber.

Ms Sultana later escalated her criticism during the same debate, saying:

“We all know that the prime minister appointed Mandelson because he owes his job to him. He appointed him, he defended him, and now he claims to know nothing.

“He is gaslighting the nation. So let’s call this out for what it is. The prime minister is a bare-faced liar.”

Hoyle warned her repeatedly before stating:

“Leave now, I’ll name you otherwise, I’d go now if I were you.

“I’ve given the option to name. I’d leave if I were you, very quickly.”

When she attempted to respond, he added:

“Leave, I’m sorry you’ve done this, I really am,”

She was subsequently formally “named” and suspended following a vote of MPs.

The exchange came as Starmer set out details of the government’s handling of Mandelson’s security vetting, saying it was “staggering” that he had not been informed of issues raised during the process. He said he would not have proceeded with the appointment had he been aware of the failed recommendation by UK security vetting officials.

Lord Mandelson was later dismissed last year following revelations about his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
