Gaza Board of Peace demands proof of Hamas' commitment through disarmament

07 July 2026 11:01

The Board of Peace, established to help resolve the situation in the Gaza Strip, has made clear that it expects Hamas to disarm its forces as the next step following the movement’s announcement that it is preparing to transfer administrative authority to a Palestinian technocratic body.

"Ultimately, our assessment will be based on actions, not promises, to address the critical needs of the people of Gaza," the Peace Board said, stressing that "decisions must be comprehensive with respect to the requirements as set out in the Roadmap for advancing governance, security, and transition in Gaza."

In this regard, the body has expressed its aspiration for "successful conclusion of discussions on this Roadmap, including on the implementation mechanisms necessary to enable the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to assume full governing authority," according to a statement shared by the Board of Peace on social media.

"The core principle remains one authority, one law and one weapon," it emphasised, reiterating the demand that Hamas disarm so that security control remains in the hands of a single Palestinian authority.

On July 6, Gaza authorities announced that preparations had been completed for the transfer of administrative powers to the Palestinian Technocratic Committee. Officials revealed that Mohammed al-Farra, head of the Government Emergency Committee and acting chairman of the committee overseeing government activities in Gaza, had resigned and dissolved the emergency committee.

According to Gaza authorities, the move is intended to demonstrate the seriousness of the current government’s intentions regarding the transfer of power to the technocrats.

The enclave’s leadership said that only technical personnel remain within the system of public administration. These employees will stay in their positions and are prepared to come under the authority of the Palestinian Technocratic Committee, which is expected to oversee post-war governance in Gaza.

The committee tasked with administering Gaza was established on January 14. The 12-member body is headed by Palestinian politician Ali Shaath, who previously held several senior positions within the Palestinian Authority and is regarded as an expert in political and economic reconstruction.
