Boris Avakyan, fugitive ex-official, dies in St. Petersburg consulate

Boris Avakyan, a former official of Russia’s Rosimushchestvo, has been found dead at the Armenian consulate in St. Petersburg, according to reports on the Telegram channel SHOT.

The message on SHOT, cited by Caliber.Az, stated: “Fugitive former official Boris Avakyan found dead in the Armenian consulate building in St. Petersburg.” Avakyan had previously fled from court proceedings and reportedly sought refuge inside the consulate.

According to the reports, Avakyan was discovered unconscious in a bathroom of the diplomatic mission. Emergency services were called to the scene, but medical personnel could only confirm his death.

Local media outlet Fontanka reported that Avakyan’s death was a suicide.
