Bottle of almost 100-year-old whisky auctioned off for record-price

A bottle of whisky, hailed as "the most sought-after" globally, has set a new record by selling for £2.1 million at a Sotheby's auction in London.

As reported by Sky News, the Macallan Adami 1926 was the subject of a fierce bidding war on November 18, establishing the highest-ever price paid for a bottle of wine or spirits in an auction house.

Only 40 bottles of this rare whisky were produced in 1986, having been previously aged in sherry casks for 60 years. Notably, twelve of these bottles, including the one auctioned, featured labels designed by world-famous Italian pop-art artist Valerio Adami. The previous record for the most-expensive spirit sold was another Macallan Adami 1926 bottle from the same cask, sold for £1.5 million.
