bp holds drilling to assess gas reserves in Caspian Sea
bp Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye Gary Jones has said that bp continues carrying out the exploration work to estimate gas reserves at the Shah Deniz and Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.
Jones made the remarks at a press briefing, Report informs.
He noted that the company has started drilling at the Shah Deniz field to explore deep-seated gas deposits here.
“We do not expect big reserves in the deep layers of Shah Deniz, they will be less than in those which are being developed. However, the extraction of this gas will be profitable due to the availability of infrastructure - pipelines and terminal facilities,” bp regional president stressed.
He added that exploration drilling operations are also being carried out from the Chirag platform to assess the reserves of the so-called "deep gas".
Jones said that this is the same gas that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has repeatedly spoken about as one of the sources for increasing gas supplies from Azerbaijan to Europe.
