New Khojaly substation to distribute power between key cities of Azerbaijan's Karabakh PHOTO

11 May 2025 16:39

The "Khojaly" substation, with a capacity of 3200 kVA, will ensure uninterrupted power supply to several cities in Azerbaijan's Karabakh region, said Chief Engineer of the Karabakh Regional Energy Supply and Sales Department of Azerishig OJSC, Mubariz Zarbaliyev.

He noted that the "Khojaly" substation and the Digital Control Centre are designed to ensure a reliable power supply to the new residential complexes built in the Khojaly district, as well as agricultural, tourist facilities, and especially various socio-economic infrastructure projects, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Zarbaliyev also provided information about additional power lines: "To supply electricity to the substation, corresponding power transmission lines have been laid from the 'Khankendi-1' and 'Asgaran' substations. It will also be connected to the 'Aghdam-2' substation via a 35 kV power line under construction, creating a ring power supply scheme between the cities of Aghdam, Asgaran, Khojaly, and Khankendi."

The substation will also contribute to reducing energy transmission losses and overall operating expenses. Solar panels with a capacity of 52 kW have also been installed at the Digital Control Centre, and the generated energy is transmitted to the grid.

To recall, on May 9, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration of the “Khojaly" substation and the Digital Control Centre owned by Azerishig.

The Digital Control Centre centralises, collects, and processes all information regarding the current status of the networks. It allows equipment to be remotely controlled and monitored in real-time via digital systems. The substation is equipped with next-generation digital technologies and control equipment for this purpose.

Besides ensuring the reliable operation of the network, the centre helps reduce energy transmission losses and operational costs. It also enables real-time transmission of advance notifications regarding any power outages to consumers supplied by the substation. Since the integration of renewable energy sources into the electrical grid is centrally managed by the Digital Control Centre, the risk of disruptions in the energy supply is minimised. The centre ensures that the substation operates in a multifunctional mode, fully coordinating devices and equipment according to the amount of received and transmitted electrical energy.

The Digital Control Centre is also equipped with 52 kW solar panels, and the energy produced is fed into the network. Additionally, fast-charging devices for electric vehicles have been installed in the area.
