Bridge collapse at South Korea construction site kills three, injures six
A tragic accident occurred on February 25 at an expressway construction site in Anseong, South Korea, resulting in the collapse of a bridge.
The incident led to the deaths of three workers and left six others injured. One more individual remains trapped under the rubble and is still being rescued, according to authorities, Caliber.Az reports via Korean media.
The accident took place around 9:50 a.m. in Anseong, a city located approximately 65 kilometres south of Seoul, during the construction of a section of the Seoul-Sejong expressway. Several concrete slabs placed on a pier unexpectedly fell, crushing 10 workers who were underneath the bridge at the time. Tragically, three of the workers died at the scene, while six others sustained serious injuries. Emergency rescue teams have been working tirelessly to free the remaining workers trapped under the debris.
Initial reports from fire authorities indicated that two individuals had been killed, but one of the injured was later pronounced dead at the hospital, bringing the death toll to three.
Hyundai Engineering, the construction company responsible for the site, expressed its focus on the recovery efforts and is currently working to assess how many of the workers involved were hired through subcontractors.
The National Fire Agency has mobilized additional firefighters to continue searching for any missing persons. In response to the disaster, Acting President Choi Sang-mok issued emergency instructions to deploy all available resources and personnel to assist in the ongoing rescue operation.
