British envoy believes peace between Armenia, Azerbaijan “within reach”

Britain believes that the signing of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia is possible in the near future, said British Ambassador to Armenia John Gallagher, Report informs citing Armenpress.

"The UK supports the creation and effective work of the platform, facilitated by the US and the European Union, and the participation of the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides in constructive negotiations," he noted.

In the diplomat's view, the fact that representatives of Azerbaijan and Armenia are at the negotiating table is encouraging.

"The UK encourages direct meetings between the two sides and calls for more frequent meetings, confident that even the most painful issues can be discussed in a constructive atmosphere," the British Ambassador said.

Commenting on the process of normalisation of Armenian-Turkish relations, Gallagher said that the UK supports the sides on this issue as well.

"The settlement of relations between Armenia and Türkiye is of great importance for the region and, in particular, will help Armenia to diversify its foreign policy and become a more secure country," the Ambassador said.
