Brussels meetings lay groundwork for Ukraine’s 2026 military support VIDEO
A Ukrainian delegation held a series of meetings in Brussels with European partners ahead of the next Ukraine Defence Contact Group session in Ramstein-format, focusing on planning Kyiv’s support for 2026 and setting funding priorities.
Writing on Telegram, Ukraine’s Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov noted that discussions with EU Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas centred on ensuring the most effective use of funds provided under the EU credit facility, Caliber.Az reports.
Separate meetings were held with defence ministers from Romania, Lithuania, Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, and Sweden. Topics included new contributions to the PURL program for procuring critically needed air defence systems, financing the production of Ukrainian drones and missiles, and expanding joint defence projects and industrial cooperation.
Fedorov emphasised Kyiv’s goal of building mutually beneficial partnerships, with strengthening air defence as a key priority.
“This is essential to achieving the objectives set by the president: protecting our skies, halting the enemy on land and at sea, weakening their economy, and acting against them in the cognitive domain. Together with our partners, we are building a system that allows us to seize the initiative in each of these areas. Ukraine is today developing a new defence model—low-cost technological solutions, fast innovation cycles, and data-driven command. We are ready to share these solutions and already provide partners access to battlefield analytics. We must work jointly on a new defence doctrine and create next-generation armies,” he wrote.
Fedorov also addressed the EU Council, thanking members for approving €90 billion in financial support for Ukraine. He stressed the importance of using these funds swiftly and flexibly, particularly to strengthen drone and air defence programs.
Further decisions on enhancing Ukraine’s defence capabilities are expected at the next Ramstein-format contact group meeting.
