Bulgarian president calls on Europe to support US efforts for peace in Ukraine
Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has urged Europe to back the United States in its efforts to bring about peace in Ukraine, emphasizing the need for diplomatic solutions and a ceasefire.
Speaking at a briefing after discussions with Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović, who is currently on an official visit to Bulgaria, Radev stressed the importance of international cooperation to end the ongoing conflict, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"I urge Europe to support the US and collaborate in a way that will lead to a ceasefire and, ultimately, bring all parties to the negotiating table," Radev said. He called for the use of diplomacy and other mechanisms to reach a solution that ensures a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.
The Bulgarian president also warned against Europe's current approach to the conflict, arguing that pursuing peace "from a position of strength" was a misguided and immoral strategy. "It is wrong for Europe to push Ukraine to continue the war, believing that peace can be achieved through force. This approach is not only unrealistic but also harmful, leading to greater destruction, more casualties, and the loss of Ukrainian territory," Radev said.
US President Donald Trump has expressed his intention to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. However, European leaders are concerned, as it appears they may not have a significant role in the negotiations.
