Bushehr nuclear plant remains outside sanctions scope – Russian FM
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated that Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant has never been subject to sanctions, adding that its operation concerns only Russia and Iran.
He made the remarks during a press conference following talks with Equatorial Guinea’s Foreign Minister Siméon Oyono Esono Angue, according to Russian media.
“Regarding the Bushehr nuclear power plant, this facility has never been under any sanctions; it was excluded from the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal framework, and it concerns no one except Russia and Iran,” Lavrov said.
He added that the project is ongoing, with additional power units under construction.
Lavrov also noted, citing Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev, that personnel are returning after some staff were evacuated to neighbouring countries in the context of attacks near the plant perimeter during what he described as US and Israeli strikes.
