Canada to announce $633.5 million aid package for Ukraine
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced that his government will soon unveil a new aid package for Ukraine worth C$900 million ($633.5 million).
Speaking at the start of a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Ankara, Carney said the assistance package would be formally announced in the near future, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
"Canada will announce C$900 million in assistance over the medium term. And when I say the medium term, I mean the coming months," Carney told Zelenskyy.
Although Carney did not explicitly specify the currency, Canadian government assistance is typically denominated in Canadian dollars.
C$900 million is equivalent to approximately US$633 million.
According to Carney, the package will include military vehicles, ammunition, air defence systems, and other equipment.
Zelenskyy, in turn, said Ukraine has already received an air defence package from Canada.
The Canadian prime minister further stated that his country intends to continue supporting Ukraine's energy needs, as well as its economic recovery and resilience.
