Canadian premier to discuss global challenges with allies in Europe
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will visit Poland, Germany and Latvia from August 25 to 27 to strengthen cooperation with European allies in the fields of security, trade and energy, his office announced.
During the trip, Carney is scheduled to meet with political leaders, business representatives and NATO partners to discuss shared challenges in security, trade, energy and critical minerals. Stops are planned in Warsaw, Berlin and Riga.
The prime minister’s office underlined Canada’s continued support for allies in countering Russia’s war against Ukraine, as well as its active role in reinforcing NATO’s eastern flank, Caliber.Az informs.
Carney is expected to reaffirm Canada’s commitment to providing ongoing military and financial assistance to Ukraine. He will also place particular emphasis on cooperation in climate policy, the energy transition and new technologies. According to Carney, building sustainable supply chains for critical minerals and joint investments in the green economy are essential for future economic growth in both Canada and Europe.
“Canada will continue to stand with its allies in Europe, defending shared values, strengthening collective security and opening new opportunities for economic partnership,” the prime minister said.
The visit will also provide an opportunity to discuss Canada’s role in strengthening multilateral institutions and coordinating efforts on global security.
