Washington, Kyiv to seal Ukraine reconstruction deal in Davos
Washington and Kyiv are set to sign a major economic agreement on Ukraine’s reconstruction at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, scheduled for January 19–23.
U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will attend the signing ceremony, Caliber.Az reports per Western media.
The project, dubbed the “Economic Prosperity Plan,” marks a decisive shift in Kyiv’s strategy—leveraging its natural resources and reconstruction potential to secure security guarantees from Washington. This move toward “economic diplomacy” aligns with President Trump’s transactional approach, as Ukraine’s reconstruction needs are estimated at $800 billion over ten years.
The forthcoming document is inspired by a strategic minerals agreement signed in 2025. As a concrete sign of this cooperation, Ukraine on January 9 officially transferred development rights to a lithium deposit to TechMet, a consortium financed by the U.S. government.
While Zelenskyy had initially sought to sign the pact at the White House as early as next week, European allies reportedly pushed for a multilateral format in Davos to attract a broader range of global partners and private investors.
