Central Bank of Russia sees $2 billion net loss in 2025

The Central Bank of Russia saw a net loss of 184.8 billion roubles (approximately $2.0 billion) for 2025, compared with a profit of 199.5 billion roubles (approximately $2.2 billion) the previous year, according to its annual report.

The regulator said the negative financial result was primarily linked to a decline in the volume of refinancing provided to credit institutions. The report also notes that a decrease in the share of loans issued at higher rates under its main liquidity mechanism.

As refinancing operations fell, interest income from these activities declined compared with 2024. At the same time, expenses related to liquidity absorption operations remained broadly unchanged, the bank said.
