Champions League final in Istanbul brings Türkiye $200 million
The final match of the UEFA Champions League brought Türkiye $200 million.
The remarks came from the head of the Turkish Football Federation Mehmet Buyukeksi, according to US-based news website Oops Top.
Manchester City beat Inter Milan 1-0. This was the first-ever victory for an English club.
“Guests from all over the world came to the final and contributed to the economy of our country in the form of 200 million dollars of foreign currency,” Büyükäksi said in an interview with the Sözcü newspaper.
He noted that this match was a “litmus test” of Türkiye’s ability to host the European Championships in 2028 and 2032 in the country. The head of the federation highly appreciated the organisation of the final match and thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Earlier, Erdogan visited the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul, which hosted the UEFA Champions League final. He greeted the fans before the start of the match.
