China hits US defence giants with sanctions after Taiwan weapons deal
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it is imposing sanctions on a number of U.S. defence companies and senior executives following Washington’s decision to sell a large volume of weapons to Taiwan.
The ministry said the move by the United States “seriously violates the One-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, severely interferes in China’s internal affairs, and undermines Chinese sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Caliber.Az reports via Chinese media.
Under the provisions of China’s Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law, the sanctions target 20 U.S. defence-related companies, including Northrop Grumman Systems, L3Harris Maritime Services, Boeing’s St. Louis division, Gibbs & Cox, Advanced Acoustic Concepts LLC, and others.
The Chinese government has frozen these companies’ assets in China and prohibited domestic organisations and individuals from engaging in transactions or cooperation with them.
In addition, sanctions have been imposed on 10 senior executives, including Palmer Luckey, John Cantrell, Michael Carnovale, John Cummer, and others. These individuals will face asset freezes, restrictions on business dealings with Chinese entities, and a ban on entry into China, including Hong Kong and Macau.
The sanctions take effect immediately. China has attached a full “countermeasure list” detailing the affected companies and executives.
