China backs direct talks between Russia, Ukraine for lasting peace
Spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry Mao Ning has said that China expressed its strong support for direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, emphasising that these talks should lead to a fair and lasting peace.
She made these remarks during a recent press briefing, Caliber.Az reports via Chinese media.
Mao’s comments were in response to questions about a phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, which touched on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Mao reiterated China’s commitment to peace efforts in the region, stressing that Beijing supports all initiatives aimed at bringing an end to the crisis.
"China supports direct dialogue and negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, as well as a political solution to the current crisis," Mao stated. "We hope that through these discussions, both parties can reach a fair, long-term, and binding peace agreement that is mutually acceptable."
The spokesperson also underscored China's willingness to work alongside the international community to resolve the conflict and ensure lasting peace.
She highlighted Beijing’s ongoing role in contributing to peacebuilding efforts, reaffirming China's position as a constructive actor in global diplomacy.
"China is ready to continue working with the international community to resolve the crisis and achieve lasting peace," Mao concluded. "We remain committed to playing a positive and constructive role in this important issue."
