Britain raises terror threat level to “severe” after London incident
The United Kingdom has raised its terrorism threat level to “severe” following an antisemitic attack in London on 29 April.
According to Sky News, the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre increased the threat level from “substantial” to “severe” after the incident in the Golders Green area, where a knife attacker injured two people.
This means that intelligence services assess the likelihood of another terrorist attack in the near future as high.
Officials noted that the country’s terrorism threat has been rising for some time. Among the reasons cited were increased activity by both Islamist and far-right extremist groups and individuals within the UK.
In response, the government announced expanded funding for security measures to protect Jewish communities, which have recently become key targets. This includes strengthened protection for synagogues, schools, and community centres.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said the authorities would “do everything in our power to rid society of the evil of antisemitism.”
