UAE: Iran cannot be trusted on Strait of Hormuz security
UAE presidential diplomatic adviser Anwar Gargash has said that Iran cannot be trusted to uphold any unilateral arrangements concerning the Strait of Hormuz, following what he described as “treacherous aggression” against its neighbours.
In comments posted on X, Gargash said ongoing discussions over the strategic waterway should be grounded in collective international will and international law, rather than Iranian control or guarantees.
“In the current discussions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, the key guarantor of freedom of navigation in this vital passage is collective international will and the norms of international law, serving the interests of regional stability and the global economy in the post-conflict period,” he wrote.
He added that it is “natural that no unilateral Iranian arrangements can be trusted or relied upon” after what he called “its brutal aggression against all its neighbours.”
