China calls for de-escalation after alleged Ukrainian attack on Putin's residence
China has called on all parties involved in the Ukraine conflict to avoid further escalation, after reports on an alleged Ukrainian attack on Russian President Vlaidimir Putin's residence in Novgorod, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, said.
“China urges all interested parties to follow three principles: prevent the expansion of the conflict, avoid escalating the situation, refrain from stirring up hostility, and create conditions for a political resolution of the crisis,” the spokesperson emphasised, Caliber.Az reports via TASS.
Lin Jian made the comments in response to an alleged Ukrainian drone attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region. He also stressed that dialogue and negotiations remain the only “realistic way to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.”
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reported that on the night of December 28 to 29, Kyiv carried out an attack using 91 drones on President Putin’s state residence in the Novgorod region. All the drones were destroyed. The minister noted that no information had been received regarding casualties or damage from drone debris.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aide, Yuri Ushakov, stated that in a phone call, Putin drew President Donald Trump’s attention to the attack by Kyiv, which occurred “practically immediately” after the U.S.–Ukraine talks at Mar-a-Lago, and warned that it would not go “without the most serious response.”
