China confirms role in Iran-US ceasefire, details remain undisclosed
Beijing has acknowledged its role in the ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States, which was reached earlier this week, but has not disclosed the details of its involvement.
At a regular briefing on April 8, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning addressed questions about Beijing’s role, stating that China has “worked actively to help bring about an end to the conflict” since hostilities began, Caliber.Az reports, citing CNN.
“As a responsible major country, China will continue playing a constructive role and making positive contributions to restoring peace and tranquillity in the Gulf and Middle East region,” Mao added.
Earlier, the White House confirmed that high-level discussions between US and Chinese officials took place during the negotiations.
Beijing has long been regarded as a potential influencer in the peace process due to its diplomatic and economic connections with Tehran and its strong relationship with Pakistan, which is expected to host peace talks.
