China reaffirms commitment to peace, fair, lasting resolution for Ukraine crisis
At the Munich Security Conference, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s dedication to promoting peace and supporting a fair, lasting, and binding peace agreement for the Ukraine crisis.
Wang made these comments during a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, who requested the meeting on the sidelines of the conference, Caliber.Az reports per Chinese media.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the historical friendship between China and Ukraine, which has developed into a strategic partnership since 2011.
He emphasized that bilateral relations have continued to progress normally, even under challenging circumstances, and underscored that China has been Ukraine's largest trading partner in recent years. He further noted that this success demonstrates the potential and space for deeper cooperation between the two nations.
"China views Ukraine as a friend and partner, and always approaches and advances China-Ukraine relations from a long-term perspective. We are ready to work with Ukraine to overcome unfavorable factors, advance bilateral relations, and carry out practical cooperation," Wang said.
In response to the ongoing Ukraine crisis, Wang reiterated China’s commitment to peace and negotiations, citing President Xi Jinping's principles and propositions, including his "four points" and "three observations" on resolving the conflict.
"Facts and the development of the situation have once again proven that the principles and propositions put forward by President Xi Jinping are objective, impartial, rational, and pragmatic," Wang added.
China, Wang continued, will maintain its support for all efforts toward peace, with the goal of achieving a fair, lasting, and binding peace agreement that is acceptable to all parties involved. He also referenced the "Friends of Peace" platform, initiated by China and countries of the Global South, which aims to build consensus for promoting peace and dialogue.
In response, Sybiha acknowledged the ongoing dialogues between Ukraine and China and highlighted the mutual benefits of their cooperation. "Mutually beneficial cooperation between Ukraine and China has brought benefits to the people of both countries," Sybiha said.
He also reaffirmed Ukraine's commitment to the one-China principle and expressed Ukraine’s readiness to deepen its strategic partnership with China.
"Ukraine attaches great importance to China's influence as a major country," Sybiha noted. "We appreciate China's objective and balanced position and expect China to play an important role in achieving comprehensive, just, and lasting peace."
Sybiha further assured Wang that Ukraine would continue to ensure the safety of Chinese institutions and citizens within its borders.
The sides expressed a shared desire for continued cooperation and dialogue, with an emphasis on long-term stability and peace in the region.
