China, Saudi Arabia highlight need for secure passage in Strait of Hormuz
Chinese President Xi Jinping has held a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, focusing on bilateral relations and escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Xi said Beijing attaches “high importance” to its relationship with Riyadh and reaffirmed that China seeks to deepen strategic trust, expand practical cooperation, and increase high-level exchanges, Caliber.Az reports via Chinese media.
He noted that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China–Saudi comprehensive strategic partnership, describing it as an opportunity to further broaden and strengthen ties.
On regional developments, Xi called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, urging all parties to prioritise political and diplomatic solutions to disputes. He stressed the importance of maintaining normal navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, saying it serves the shared interests of regional countries and the wider international community.
The Saudi Crown Prince said relations with China are of “strategic importance” to Riyadh and reiterated support for strengthening cooperation.
He warned that ongoing conflicts in the Middle East are undermining Gulf security and disrupting global energy supplies and economic stability. He added that Saudi Arabia supports dialogue as a means to resolve differences and prevent further escalation.
Both sides underscored the need to avoid further deterioration of the situation, maintain stability in the Gulf region, and ensure safe and free maritime passage through key waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz.
