Chisinau joins Black Sea sustainable tourism project Investing over €200,000
Chisinau City Hall has officially joined the Sustainable Destinations Black Sea Network (SUSDEST-NET), a regional initiative aimed at promoting sustainable tourism across the Black Sea basin.
The project brings together Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and Türkiye, with a shared goal of making the region’s tourist destinations more environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and economically attractive.
According to Caliber.Az, citing Moldovan media, SUSDEST-NET supports the "blue economy", improves environmental standards, encourages social justice, and strengthens economic resilience.
The project aims to attract more tourists, stimulate local economies, and safeguard the cultural and natural heritage of the Black Sea region. A key component involves actively engaging local communities, including suburban areas, to ensure inclusive and sustainable development initiatives.
The total budget of SUSDEST-NET is €1.415 million, with 90% funded by the European Union and the remaining 10% provided by project partners. Chisinau City Hall will contribute €223,245 to the initiative. Of this amount, €200,920 will be reimbursed from the EU fund through the project leader, the Municipality of Kavala in Greece, while the remaining €22,324 represents Chisinau’s own non-reimbursable contribution.
The project is scheduled to run from 2025 to 2028, and the city’s participation underscores its commitment to sustainable tourism development, regional cooperation, and environmental and economic sustainability.
