CIS Foreign Ministers meet in Moscow to discuss economic Integration, multilateral cooperation
Moscow hosted another meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on October 7, attended by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
Ministers initially convened in a closed session before proceeding to a plenary meeting, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The discussions focused on the outcomes of collaborative efforts in light of Russia's presidency priorities for 2024, as well as prospects for multilateral cooperation within the CIS.
Key topics included deepening economic integration, addressing both traditional and emerging challenges and threats, and expanding cultural and humanitarian ties.
"The exchange of views on pressing international and regional issues was particularly significant," remarked a source from the meeting.
Furthermore, a plan for multilevel consultations between the ministries for 2025 was approved alongside an action plan for implementing the International Youth Cooperation Strategy for 2025-2026.
The meeting also endorsed an action plan designating Ashgabat as the “City of New Sports Opportunities in the CIS for 2024-2025.”
In addition, decisions were made to establish four new foundational organisations in the areas of advocacy, media, and the development of volunteer movements. The next meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers is scheduled for April 11, 2025, in Kazakhstan.
On the same day, a gathering of heads of diplomatic missions from CIS member states accredited in Azerbaijan took place at the Russian Embassy in Baku.
The meeting included Russian Ambassador Mikhail Yevdokimov, Belarusian Ambassador Andrei Ravkov, Kazakh Ambassador Alim Bayel, Kyrgyz Ambassador Maksat Mamytkanov, Tajik Ambassador Ilhom Abdurahmon, Turkmen Ambassador Gurbanmammet Elyasov, and Uzbek Ambassador Bahrom Ashrafkhanov.
The Russian diplomatic mission noted, “The meeting discussed prospects for multifaceted cooperation within the CIS framework, as well as topics of mutual interest.”
