CIS observers record no violations during Kazakh presidential elections
Head of the CIS mission of observers Sergei Lebedev has said that the mission has not yet registered any severe violations in the presidential elections in Kazakhstan.
Lebedev made the remarks in an interview with reporters at a polling station at one of the schools in Astana, Caliber.Az reports, citing TASS.
“We saw at one polling station that a person mixed up the address of the polling station and came to the wrong place. We did not see any other violations, neither I, nor those observers with whom I spoke,” Lebedev said.
“The voting process is quiet. People are actively voting. The turnout is quite high,” the head of the mission noted.
At the moment, neither the Interior Ministry nor the Prosecutor General's Office reported about any violations or incidents during the voting.
The turnout reached 62.34 per cent at the snap presidential elections in Kazakhstan by 16:00 (GMT+6).
Voting is carried out from 07:00 to 20:00 (GMT+6). In some cases, local election commissions may extend the working hours of polling stations, Report informs citing the CEC.
Six candidates contend for the presidential post, including incumbent President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
