CNN: Ceasefire holds in name only as Lebanon sees growing casualties
At least eight people were killed on April 29 in Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon despite a declared ceasefire, CNN reports, citing Lebanese authorities and state media.
Lebanon’s Civil Defence said two civilians were killed in an initial strike on a building in Majdal Zoun, a town near Tyre. A subsequent strike on the same location killed three Civil Defence personnel who were “assisting people wounded” after the first attack.
During the second strike, two Lebanese army soldiers were injured, according to Civil Defence and the armed forces command.
Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun’s office condemned the strikes in a post on X, describing them as part of “a series … that targeted relief and first aid workers.”
Separately, Lebanese state media reported that two people were killed in Israeli strikes in the towns of Tebnine and Shaqra, while the Health Ministry reported one fatality in the town of Jouaiya.
According to data released by the Health Ministry on April 27, at least 2,521 people have been killed in Lebanon since March 2, and more than 7,800 have been injured.
