Convoy of solidarity with Gaza crosses Libyan border
A convoy of pro-Palestinian activists aiming to break the blockade of Gaza has crossed into Libya overnight via the Ras Ajdir border crossing with Tunisia.
Dubbed the “Maghreb Resistance Convoy,” the mission comprises hundreds of participants from Algeria, Tunisia, and Mauritania, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
Upon arrival in Libya, the convoy was welcomed by large numbers of Libyan supporters expressing solidarity with the humanitarian initiative.
Following an overnight stay at the border, the convoy continued to its first stop in the city of Zawiya, situated west of the Libyan capital, Tripoli. Organisers say Libyan activists are expected to join the effort, with further stops planned in Misrata in western Libya.
The convoy includes 12 buses and around 100 vehicles, carrying over a thousand participants.
Dr Mohamed Amin Bennour, a representative of the initiative, said the effort is being coordinated by the Independent Coordination for Solidarity with Palestine, based in Tunisia.
“As we move forward, thousands more will join us,” Bennour said, describing the convoy as part of a global campaign involving activists from over 30 countries across Europe, South America, and Southeast Asia.
“We are working in coordination with other groups heading to Gaza by land, sea, and air. Our goal is to reach Gaza by land and draw international attention to the situation there. Solidarity events and activities will take place along the route,” he added.
