COP29 achievements spotlighted at Paris climate forum PHOTO
UNESCO headquarters in Paris hosted the event “From Baku to Belém: UNESCO’s Climate Action for Building Informed Resilient Societies”, spotlighting global efforts to combat climate change.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan and Lead Negotiator for COP29, Yalchin Rafiyev, addressed the gathering, highlighting the key achievements of Azerbaijan’s presidency at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) and reaffirming the country’s expanding role in climate diplomacy, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.
Rafiyev stressed the critical roles that education, science, and culture play in advancing climate action.
He outlined several landmark accomplishments from COP29, including the adoption of the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance, the establishment of the “Baku to Belém” Roadmap, the agreement on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, and the formal launch of the Loss and Damage Fund. The Deputy Minister emphasized Azerbaijan’s commitment to sustained collaboration with both regional and international partners in addressing climate change challenges.
During his visit to Paris, Rafiyev also engaged in discussions with Fatih Birol, Executive Director at the International Energy Agency (IEA). The two exchanged prospects for shared priorities, with particular focus on energy initiatives aligned with Azerbaijan’s COP29 presidency.
