Cuba’s fuel crisis deepens as Russia stays in close diplomatic contact
09 February 2026 14:08
The fuel situation in Cuba remains critical, and Russia is maintaining contact with its Cuban partners through diplomatic channels, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists.
“The situation in Cuba is indeed critical. We are aware of this. Through diplomatic and other channels, we are maintaining intensive contacts with our Cuban friends,” Peskov said when asked whether the Kremlin understands how Russian tourists would be evacuated once aviation fuel at Cuban airports runs out, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
The fuel crisis in Cuba worsened following a US military operation carried out on January 3 in Venezuela to seize President Nicolás Maduro. Venezuela had been one of Cuba’s main suppliers of oil.
