Cyberattack disrupts dozens of flights at Brussels Airport
Brussels International Airport have cancelled or diverted 44 flights out of a scheduled 257 due to a cyberattack, airport authorities say.
According to the airport, the attack, which targeted an external service provider, led to the cancellation of 38 flights and the diversion of six others, Caliber.Az reports.
On Saturday, September 20, the airport announced it would cancel half of Sunday’s departing flights as the cyberattack’s effects were still unresolved. Passenger check-in issues are expected to continue into Monday. All airport staff have been mobilised to conduct manual check-in and boarding procedures.
The cyberattack on passenger check-in and boarding systems occurred overnight from Friday to Saturday. While the airport’s own systems were unaffected, the external service provider was compromised.
In addition to Brussels, hackers targeted two other European airports — London Heathrow and Berlin — causing further delays and flight cancellations. The attack focused on Collins Aerospace, a company providing check-in and boarding systems to multiple airlines, resulting in the failure of automated systems.
