Danish PM Frederiksen refuses to put price on Greenland
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen declined to assign a monetary value to Greenland during the Munich Security Conference on February 14.
Frederiksen stressed that Denmark is a sovereign state and that the right of Greenlanders to self-determination must be respected, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
According to her, the people of Greenland have made it clear that they do not wish to become Americans.
Commenting on US President Donald Trump’s position, she added that Denmark and Europe do not agree with his desire to control the island.
Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in buying Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, claiming that the US needs it for security and strategic resources.
Both Danish and Greenlandic leaders have firmly rejected the idea, insisting the territory is not for sale.
Greenland’s strategic value comes from its Arctic position, home to US military facilities and lying along vital transatlantic routes, underpinning Trump’s argument that acquiring it serves both American and global security.
