Defence giant ASELSAN unveils revolutionary solution for Turkish Navy VIDEO

19 March 2024 13:34

Turkish defence company ASELSAN has completed the development of a low-frequency active sonar system DÜFAS.

Defense Turk made a post in this regard on its social X media account, Caliber.Az reports.

DÜFAS can effectively detect submarines and torpedoes thanks to its 360-degree omnidirectional scanning capability.

The DÜFAS system was originally developed to meet the needs of the Naval Sea Systems Command under a contract signed with the Defense Production Agency. DÜFAS is a towed active/passive depth-changeable sonar system with state-of-the-art technology used on surface platforms to detect silent threats underwater, especially submarines, from very long distances.

This system is the first and only towed sonar system developed and manufactured domestically. The system provides highly accurate detection over large areas by utilizing the continuously active sonar function.

In passive sonar mode, the system is used to detect threats such as torpedoes by listening to ambient noise. Unlike its counterparts, HIZIR Torpedo Countermeasure components can also be integrated into DÜFAS, and the system recommends to the user the most appropriate countermeasure tactics and ship abandonment manoeuvres that should be employed to destroy torpedoes fired from enemy platforms.

The system thus becomes a torpedo countermeasures system that incorporates the functions of the HIZIR system in addition to its active sonar capabilities and can offer an integrated solution. When a torpedo is detected, the system activates countermeasures and eliminates the threat, allowing safe escape.
