Deputy FM: Russia sees significant potential in enhancing cooperation with Türkiye
Russia's active engagement with Türkiye across various sectors opens up strategic opportunities, according to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin.
Pankin made this statement at a formal reception marking the 101st anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media
“We are pleased with the high level of Russian-Turkish relations achieved, owing to the capacity of our nations to overcome differences and find avenues for growth throughout history, even during challenging times,” Pankin stated.
“Our active collaboration in diverse areas – from economics and trade to culture and security – paves the way for exploring new strategic horizons. Our trade turnover continues to increase.”
Türkiye’s Ambassador to Moscow, Tanju Bilgiç, commented that ties between the two nations have significantly strengthened, noting that Erdoğan’s participation in the recent BRICS summit is “one of the most relevant and compelling examples” of this.
“Mutual respect and cooperation between our countries, established through the determined will of both leaders, form the foundation of our relationship.
This enables us to engage in a dynamic and genuine dialogue across all areas and makes our collaboration possible,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Erdoğan reaffirmed Türkiye's commitment to advancing discussions with the BRICS group of emerging market nations on October 24, 2024, following Ankara's bid to become the first NATO member to join the alliance. Erdoğan attended the BRICS summit in Kazan at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, having expressed interest in joining the bloc last month, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
“We are determined to further our dialogue with the BRICS family, with whom we have developed close relations based on mutual respect and a win-win approach,” Erdoğan stated during his address to delegates at the forum.
Erdoğan also critiqued the existing political and financial mechanisms that emerged post-World War II, asserting that they have failed to meet contemporary expectations.
“The political and financial mechanisms that emerged after World War II cannot deliver what is expected of them,” he remarked.
He also highlighted the unique contributions of BRICS towards fostering a “more just world” through initiatives aimed at enhancing global trade, driving economic growth, and achieving sustainable development goals.
