Doha сalls for diplomacy between Washington and Tehran
Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani urged the United States and Iran to engage in dialogue and adhere to existing agreements during a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said.
The call addressed the latest escalation between Washington and Tehran over the past two days.
Sheikh Mohammed condemned attacks targeting commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, warning they risk undermining regional stability.
The State of Qatar expressed condemnation and rejection of the attacks that targeted commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz despite the atmosphere of calm and the efforts made to reduce escalation in the region. He stressed that such actions would undermine trust, threaten international maritime security, and harm efforts to consolidate regional security and stability.
He also called on all parties to pursue diplomacy and implement commitments under the memorandum of understanding.
He stressed the need for all parties to commit to dialogue and diplomacy, and to implement what was agreed upon within the framework of the memorandum of understanding, in order to contribute to maintaining the security of the region, preserving the gains that have been achieved, and enhancing regional stability.
Qatar reiterated its support for efforts to contain the escalation and reach a broader agreement.
During the call, Sheikh Mohammed reiterated the State of Qatar's support for all efforts aimed at containing the escalation and reaching a comprehensive agreement that contributes to consolidating security and stability and achieving sustainable peace in the region.
