Dozens of Russian regions suspend classes over growing infection rates

Educational institutions across Russia are suspending operations as quarantine measures are introduced amid a rapid spread of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI).

Depending on the region, authorities are either closing specific classes and kindergarten groups or temporarily shutting down entire schools and preschool facilities, according to Russian media.

Such measures have already been implemented in at least 20 regions nationwide.

Quarantines affecting children have been reported in Karelia, Udmurtia, the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Crimea, Komi, as well as in the Perm, Primorsky and Zabaykalsky territories, Yakutia, and the Smolensk, Omsk, Ulyanovsk and Kemerovo regions. Since Tuesday, similar developments have also been recorded in the Leningrad, Pskov, Novosibirsk and Nizhny Novgorod regions.
