Drone attack triggers environmental incident in Moscow region PHOTO

Authorities are working to contain the aftermath of a chemical spill at an industrial facility in Domodedovo following a drone attack that triggered a fire, local officials said.

The incident occurred at the Yuzhnye Vorota Industrial Park, located in Russia's Moscow Region, where emergency teams are addressing contamination linked to the blaze. Yevgenia Khrustaleva said response efforts are being coordinated with regional environmental authorities and business representatives.

“We discussed the cleanup efforts together with the deputy minister of ecology of the Moscow region, Vadim Vorontsov, the management of the park and the company TD Grass,” she said.

According to Khrustaleva, contaminated water has accumulated in on-site treatment facilities. Specialists have introduced bacteria and defoaming agents to neutralise hazardous substances. If successful, the same method may be used to treat nearby affected water bodies.

Cleanup operations are ongoing around a warehouse destroyed in the fire. To prevent polluted runoff from entering stormwater systems, crews have constructed a sand barrier around the site and sealed nearby drainage points.

“Residents are asked to refrain from swimming, fishing and using river water for household purposes. Water from the tap and public water points meets sanitary standards and can be used without restrictions,” she said.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation to limit environmental damage and ensure public safety following the incident.
