Drone spotted over power plant in northern Finland
Authorities in Finland have launched an investigation after an unidentified drone was flown over a power plant in Rovaniemi, the capital of Finnish Lapland, over the weekend.
The incident, which involved the Vaajakoski power station owned by Kemijoki Oy, is being treated with concern, as power plants in Finland have been designated no-fly zones for drones since August. The regulation prohibits any unauthorised drone activity near such critical infrastructure due to security risks, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
A passer-by reportedly spotted the drone and promptly notified local police. Law enforcement officials confirmed the sighting to Finnish broadcaster Yle but declined to provide further details, citing the ongoing investigation.
Yuhi Kyytölähti, head of the local emergency services, stated that while the power plant is equipped with video surveillance, the drone operator was not captured on camera. It remains unclear who was behind the drone flight or what its purpose may have been.
