Media: Egypt rejects proposal to allocate land to Gaza residents
Egypt has firmly rejected any proposal to allocate land for Gaza residents.
US President Donald Trump suggested that there could be land in Jordan, Egypt, or another location where Palestinians could be resettled, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Earlier, Trump put forward a highly contentious proposal as part of his broader Middle East peace plan, suggesting that Palestinians from the Gaza Strip could be resettled in Egypt and Jordan.
By suggesting that Palestinians be resettled in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula and certain areas of Jordan, the plan is framed as an opportunity for Palestinians to escape the difficult conditions of Gaza and build a better future with access to improved infrastructure, jobs, and living conditions. The Egyptian government has made it clear that it does not support a plan that could ultimately result in the displacement of Palestinians from their homeland and undermine the pursuit of a two-state solution.
Similarly, Jordan has also voiced strong opposition to the resettlement proposal. Jordan hosts a significant Palestinian refugee population, and Jordanian officials have repeatedly reiterated that the solution to the Palestinian issue must be based on the right of Palestinians to return to their ancestral lands and establish an independent state. Jordan’s King Abdullah II has warned against any plan that would permanently resettle Palestinians outside of their homeland, fearing that it could solidify a status quo that prevents the establishment of a Palestinian state and further destabilize the region.
