Egypt reschedules emergency Arab League summit on Palestinian crisis
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the Arab League summit, initially set for February 27 to discuss the Palestinian issue, has been rescheduled to March 4, with Egypt hosting the event.
An official statement read, "The emergency summit of the Arab League, where the Palestinian question will be discussed, will now take place on March 4," Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The Egyptian Ministry further clarified that the rescheduling was made "in coordination with other Arab nations."
To recall, Arab countries have sharply condemned US President Donald Trump’s proposal to take control of Gaza and resettle over 2 million Palestinians. Announced during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the controversial plan envisions relocating Palestinians to Jordan and Egypt while transforming Gaza into a “Riviera of the Middle East.”
The proposal follows Israel's 15-month conflict, which resulted in over 47,000 deaths, and a recent ceasefire established on January 19.
The Arab world responded with widespread rejection. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas denounced the plan as a violation of Palestinian rights, while Jordan and Egypt also firmly opposed it. Jordan’s King Abdullah highlighted the threat to regional stability, emphasizing that any solution must respect Jordan’s security.
Saudi Arabia, Oman, and the UAE reiterated their stance against displacing Palestinians, stressing the need for a just, two-state solution and reaffirming the rights of Palestinians to establish their independent state.
The Arab League and Organization of Islamic Cooperation also condemned the proposal, calling it a blatant violation of international law and a hindrance to regional peace efforts. Arab leaders continue to call for humanitarian aid and recovery efforts in Gaza without displacement.
