Qatar rules out mediation role in Iran-related conflict
Qatar is not participating in mediation efforts over the Iran conflict and is instead prioritising the strengthening of its national defence, Prime Minister’s adviser and Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majid bin Mohammed Al-Ansari said.
“We are not involved in this mediation. Our attention is focused on protecting our country from ongoing Iranian attacks,” Russian media quotes him as saying at a briefing.
The diplomat added that Qatar continues to maintain active contact with regional partners, including Pakistan, which is currently acting as a mediator between the United States and Iran.
Earlier, he said that Doha supports all diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and end the war, while maintaining that no direct Qatari mediation is currently underway.
Al-Ansari highlighted that all conflicts get resolved at the negotiating table, and that the sooner this happens, the fewer casualties there will be.
He warned against narratives aimed at creating divisions or undermining de-escalation efforts.
The spokesperson also confirmed close coordination with the United States, saying Qatar is working to present the full impact of the conflict, including significant economic damage caused by attacks on the country, while remaining vigilant amid ongoing military, security and political risks.
