Egyptian minister highlights climate pressure on cities at WUF13
There is a need to establish more effective mechanisms, strengthen sustainable financing instruments, and ensure decent living conditions for all, while taking climate-related challenges into account, Randa Al-Menshawy, Egyptian Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, has stated, noting that climate change are increasing pressure on cities and governance systems.
During a ministerial roundtable at 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Azerbaijan, she said Egypt acknowledges ongoing urban development challenges, including the mismatch between housing prices and affordability, the prevalence of informal settlements and unplanned development, and the growing need for decentralised planning and improved data collection, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Randa Al-Menshawy emphasised that Egypt is ready to work on the outcomes of the forum and to contribute to their inclusion in the interim report.
"Egypt also expresses its readiness to work on the outcomes of this session for inclusion in the interim report and reiterates the need for inclusive partnerships between relevant entities to ensure no one is left behind," she concluded.
