Eight people injured in mine explosions in Azerbaijan in August 2022
Eight people were injured as a result of mine and unexploded ordnance explosions during six incidents (five mine explosions, one unexploded ordnance explosion) in Azerbaijan in August 2022.
Four sappers of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) were injured during mine clearance operations, one civilian was injured as a result of unexploded ordnance explosion, APA reports referring to the "Azerbaijan Campaign Against Mines" Public Association.
“One serviceman died and two others were injured. The anti-personnel mines and a hand grenade as unexploded ordnance caused all mine explosions,” the message said.
According to the message, the incidents occurred in the Fuzuli, Kalbajar Lachin, Gubadli districts and in Ganja city in July 2022.
“Four people died, 37 were injured over the past eight months. Some 202 people (120 servicemen, 82 civilians) were injured as a result of mine explosions, 40 people (eight servicemen, 32 civilians) died from November 10, 2020, through September 1, 2022,” the message said.
“Despite the appeals of official organisations and institutions of civil society, there are still people who travel to the liberated Azerbaijani territories, thereby putting their lives at risk,” the message said.
