Amendments have been made to the list of immovable historical, cultural, and architectural monuments approved by the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers in 2001.
Fariz Huseynli, Head of the Press Service of the State Service for the Protection, Development, and Restoration of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, told Caliber.Az that by a recent Cabinet decision, 44 monuments located in the districts of Aghdam, Kalbajar, Fuzuli, Lachin, Zangilan, and Khojavend—recognised for their historical, architectural, and archaeological significance—have been added to the list.
Additionally, an inventory of 550 similar monuments in the liberated territories has been completed.
Furthermore, monitoring efforts have identified 402 new sites with historical, architectural, and archaeological value, which have been registered as “newly discovered monuments.”
The inventory revealed extensive vandalism during the Armenian occupation period, with many monuments used as animal shelters.
As a result, 68 monuments were completely destroyed, 114 partially damaged, and others suffered various levels of deterioration.
