Envoy: Trump asked Erdoğan why Türkiye did not take control of Syria VIDEO

U.S. President Donald Trump asked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan why Türkiye had not taken control of Syria despite the assistance it had provided to the country, U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye and Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack said.

Recalling the exchange in an interview, Barrack said Trump reportedlly asked Erdoğan: “Why didn’t you just take Syria? If you instrument on helping them, why didn’t you just take it?”

According to Barrack, Erdoğan responded: “Because we don’t want it. We want Syria to be a sovereign and independent country as a canvas and a blanket in the middle of this very difficult zipcode.”
