Erdogan pledges Türkiye’s strong opposition to any forces disrupting peace in Syria
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reiterated that Türkiye will strongly oppose any efforts to prevent Syria from achieving lasting peace and stability, reaffirming his country’s ongoing support for the Syrian government.
Speaking after a Cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdogan made it clear that Türkiye would stand alongside the Syrian government against any actors seeking to disrupt peace, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
"Whoever tries to prevent Syria from achieving lasting peace and stability, I say this openly, will find us standing against them alongside the Syrian government," President Erdogan declared.
The president also highlighted Türkiye’s previous efforts to thwart attempts at dividing Syria through terrorism, warning that such efforts would not be tolerated in any form.
"Just as we did not allow Syria to be divided through a terror corridor, we will not allow this country to be divided through other corridors either," President Erdogan emphasised.
Commenting on the significant political changes in Syria since December 8, Erdogan stated, “There is no possibility of going back to the pre-Dec. 8 period in Syria.
With the Dec. 8 revolution, a new era has begun in the country. Instead of testing the limits of Türkiye’s patience in Syria, some actors should appreciate Türkiye's friendship, act like a state, not a [terror] group.”
In his remarks, the Turkish president also reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to prioritising justice, peace, and diplomacy, especially in a time when tensions are rising, and new crises are continually emerging.
