Erdogan reiterates Türkiye’s unwavering support for Pakistan

03 March 2026 23:59

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reaffirmed Türkiye’s firm support for Pakistan in combating terrorism during a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, while also underscoring the need for renewed diplomatic efforts to reduce escalating tensions across the region.

According to a statement issued on March 3 by the Turkish Presidency, Erdogan strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan and reiterated that Türkiye would continue to stand resolutely with Islamabad in its counterterrorism operations.

Erdogan also stated that Türkiye would contribute to the re-establishment of the ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which had previously been reached through Türkiye’s own diplomatic initiatives.

Highlighting broader regional instability following attacks against Iran, Erdogan stressed that a return to diplomatic engagement would be highly beneficial. He emphasised that Türkiye is prepared to provide all possible support to advance dialogue and de-escalation efforts.

For his part, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif briefed Erdogan on his recent contacts with leaders of the brotherly Gulf countries. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s full solidarity with them and conveyed Islamabad’s readiness to play a constructive role in resolving the crisis. Sharif also informed Erdogan about recent developments related to Afghanistan.

Both leaders agreed to remain in close and regular contact as they continue working toward peace and stability in the region.
