Erdoğan: UN must reform to tackle modern crises like Ukraine, Gaza
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called for urgent reform of the United Nations, which he claims is failing to address global crises.
Speaking at the opening of the TRT World Forum in Istanbul, Erdoğan highlighted the inadequacy of the current international system in handling ongoing conflicts, particularly the war between Russia and Ukraine and the crisis in Gaza, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
"The Russia-Ukraine war has exposed the weakness of the international system. It was also evident during the Gaza crisis. Can we continue with the current UN? No. It needs to be reformed as soon as possible," Erdoğan stated.
He remarked that, the fate of 194 countries cannot be left in the hands of just five permanent members of the Security Council.
"We are no longer in the era of World War II. The world has changed and continues to evolve"
Erdoğan’s comments reflect growing global discontent with the UN’s effectiveness in resolving contemporary geopolitical challenges.
